Building
Yourself a Stop Smoking Support
Group
No man
is an island, at least that’s what they
tell you. To put a quick explanation to
that, it simply means that no man can be
cut off from the outside world, surrounded
by only water on all sides. A person needs
some good connections in life. You need
comfort, understanding, and love. You need
people who sympathize and empathize. This
is especially true if you want to
stop smoking.
You need a solid structure of good
friends and family.
Regardless of why you’re deciding
to quit, all I can say is welcome to
reality! It’s about time you got here. Now
you need to know that you’re not alone.
Millions of people, just like you, have
decided to give this thing a go. And the
most important thing here is to succeed.
We’re going to succeed for the millions of
people who never got the chance to quit
before smoking pulled them away.
Strengthening the
Ties That Bind
A group of supporters is the
way to go here. I don’t necessarily
mean a group of fanatics who will put
your face on their t-shirts and run
around blowing air horns in your ear
and asking for autographs. I simply
mean people who care about you and
the fact that you wish to stop
smoking.
Here are some great tips
when putting together your stop
smoking support group.
• Look to your family
and closest friends first. Maybe your
coworkers will turn out to be true
friends, but look to your immediate
family and people who love you.
• Don’t ask a lot from them. It’s
unfair to say, “You take my cigarettes away
and don’t let me smoke!” No, you can’t do
that. We’re looking for support here, not
the smoking police.
• See if you can’t find someone who’s
been through the same battle to stop
smoking. If you have a friend or a relative
who’s quit, seek their support.
• Never be too proud to ask for help.
Perhaps a lot of people in your family
smoke. Don’t go preaching to them; simply
tell them that you’re planning to quit and
ask if they wouldn’t mind smoking their
cigarettes away from you.
• Lean on your group for encouragement
but not a crutch. You don’t want to fail
once they’re not around anymore.
There are plenty of ways to
stop smoking,
but building a strong support group
is definitely one of them. You must
always remember that the people in
this group aren’t you! They’re not in
control of your actions.
By taking responsibility for
yourself and remembering that you’re
the one in charge, it will be much
easier to stop smoking. But ignoring
the fact that there is help can make
it harder. Check out this link to see
